overlay or change the opacity down

Thats gaussian blur, then change the layer mode to overlay. Make sure you're selecting the skin only, then do like him and erase the blur from eyes, lips and nostrils (hair as well if you had it selected).

Awesome work but how do you do it? What tools do you use? When you do the eyes you seem to work on one, then just brush over the second and it matches exact - how do you do that?Love the results by the way :)
